Being exposed at an early age to master musicians such as Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Sting, had a profound and lasting effect on newcomer Malik Gamaliel. The sonic splashes of complex chords and cascading rhythms led him to something from which he has never strayed--his love for music.
Growing up in one of the toughest neighbourhoods in Washington, D.C. was no easy feat. But when Hip-hop pushed through the rugged urban landscape it captured Malik's attention, providing a creative outlet to release angst and aggression. At the age of 12, Malik began writing songs to share what his eyes had seen. His flight into the vast expanse of music, which included studying vocal at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, developed him into an all rounded artist who would soon after begin to sing, produce, and audio engineer his own music.
Malik, now based in Sydney, Australia, draws from a number of musical elements to create his sound. He blends drops of Future Soul with the calming subtleties of Deep House and the vibrant colors of R&B. Through his lyrics he hopes to engage the collective consciousness of humankind. His new album, "Vibes Don't Lie", explores timeless themes such as self-love and overcoming inner-struggles. And with songs like "All We've Got" he aims to connect with people, hoping they'll understand life from someone else's perspective because, he strongly believes, we can all learn from each other.
